Why there is no banner

Consent banners exist because most sites set cookies for advertising and cross-site tracking, which requires your permission. We do neither, so there is nothing to ask you to consent to.

We consider the banner itself a cost to you — a click you did not want on every visit — and designing the site so it is unnecessary was a deliberate choice, not an oversight.

What is stored on your device

Exactly one thing, and only if you interact with the age prompt: your confirmation that you are 21 or over is written to your browser's session storage under the key "age-ok".

Session storage is not a cookie. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, it holds no personal information, and your browser erases it when you close the tab. Its only job is to stop the prompt appearing on every page of the same visit.

Third parties that may set cookies

Two things on this site reach servers we do not run.

• Google Fonts: the typefaces load from Google's servers. Google does not set cookies for font requests, but the request does carry your IP address to Google.
• Amazon: if you follow an affiliate link, Amazon sets its own cookies on Amazon's site to attribute the referral. That is Amazon's cookie under Amazon's policy, set after you leave here.

Blocking storage

Every browser lets you block or clear cookies and site storage. If you block storage for this site, everything still works — the age prompt will simply appear again on your next page load, because there is nowhere to record that you answered it.

Changes

If we ever add something that sets a cookie, this page will say so before it goes live, and we will add whatever consent mechanism the law requires at that point.
